Physical gold shops, souks and some regional exchanges follow local calendars and may trade on days when the international benchmark market is closed. Their prices then reference the last spot quote.
Weekend gap risk

Is gold open on Saturday?
No. Saturday is fully closed for spot XAU/USD and COMEX gold futures. In time zones east of UTC the Friday close can fall on Saturday morning local time (for example 01:00 Saturday in Istanbul in winter).
Is gold open on Sunday?
Only in the evening: spot gold reopens Sunday 5:00 PM New York time (22:00 UTC in winter, 21:00 UTC in summer). COMEX futures reopen one hour later, at 18:00 ET.
Can I trade gold on weekends any other way?
Tokenized gold products on crypto exchanges can trade 24/7, but they are not spot XAU/USD and can deviate from it. Crypto itself stays open: is crypto open?
Why does gold gap on the Sunday or Monday open?
News and geopolitical events during the closed weekend are priced in at the open, so the first quote can differ from Friday's close, with wide spreads until London joins. Size positions before the Friday close accordingly.
