London gold trading hours
Spot XAU/USD on retail platforms follows the global forex week. During 08:00–17:00 UTC, London is the dominant financial center for both FX and OTC gold. Spreads on gold usually tighten versus the quiet Asian night.
From 13:00 UTC, New York comes online. The London–New York overlap is the best-known window for trading gold: deep liquidity, tight spreads, and US macro catalysts.
What moves gold in London
USD and real yields — gold often inversely tracks the dollar and US real rates. ECB and BoE communications hit during European hours. Risk events (geopolitics, banking stress) can send safe-haven bids into XAU/USD at any hour but execute best when London is open.
