When is gold effectively closed in 2026?
Spot gold is effectively shut on Christmas Day (25 Dec), New Year's Day (1 Jan) and Good Friday (3 Apr), plus every weekend from Friday 5:00 PM to Sunday 5:00 PM New York. How holidays affect gold
LBMA: no print on UK holidays
No AM or PM auction runs when London is closed. Spot still quotes, but funds and refiners lose their benchmark, so activity shifts to COMEX and thins out. Times: LBMA gold fix times.
COMEX: thin and early-close days
US holidays shorten or cancel Globex sessions and remove settlement. Futures-driven moves can gap into the next session. Hours: COMEX gold trading hours.
Spot gold and broker rules
The OTC market has no official holiday close, but brokers widen spreads, raise margin or halt trading on the thinnest days. Check your platform schedule before Christmas week.
Plan around the calendar

Is the gold market closed on Christmas Day?
Effectively yes. There is no LBMA auction and CME is closed on 25 December, so many brokers pause or restrict spot gold. If quotes are available they are thin and spreads are wide.
Does the LBMA gold price run on UK bank holidays?
No. The AM (10:30) and PM (15:00) auctions are not held when London is closed. Benchmark-linked products use the previous print or an alternative. See LBMA gold fix times.
Is gold open on US Thanksgiving?
Spot gold keeps quoting, but COMEX closes early and New York desks are largely absent, so liquidity is thin on Thursday 26 November and quiet on Friday. See COMEX gold trading hours.
